The Haven – Enhanced Provision

Every child is unique, valued and welcomed at The Haven.

The Haven is our enhanced provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), pupils with EHCPs that benefit from a highly individualised learning pathway. It provides a safe, nurturing and welcoming environment where children are supported to learn, communicate and flourish in their own individual way.

At The Haven, we recognise that every child learns and communicates differently. Learning is carefully adapted to each child’s individual needs, strengths, interests and stage of development. We provide a practical, meaningful and engaging curriculum which enables children to develop skills at their own pace, build confidence and experience success in their learning.

Learning is brought to life through stories, sensory experiences, play, practical activities and exploration. We use Makaton, visual communication, photographs, objects of reference and Now/Next boards to support children to understand what is happening, make choices and communicate their needs, feelings and ideas. These approaches help children to develop greater independence and make sense of the world around them.

Our provision supports development across communication and interaction, social and emotional development, sensory and physical skills, cognition and learning. Through carefully planned activities and individualised support, we encourage children to develop their confidence, independence, attention, engagement and positive relationships with others.

As part of our Catholic school community, The Haven reflects our belief that every child is created with dignity, worth and unique gifts. We place relationships, compassion, respect and inclusion at the heart of our provision and work closely with families and colleagues to understand each child and support their development.
